Transparency in the Supply Chain
For more than 115 years, The J.M. Smucker Company has been guided by our Basic Beliefs — values and principles that guide both strategic decisions and daily behavior. These Basic Beliefs regarding quality, people, ethics, growth, and independence have served as a strong foundation throughout our history and continue to be the basis for how we run the Company.
Today, Smucker bases present practices on these time-honored values and principles. We interpret them, in terms of modern business thinking, to be the guideposts for decision-making and daily interactions with consumers, customers, employees, suppliers, communities, and shareholders.
Our relationships with suppliers are particularly important, given that they directly impact our ability to meet the product quality expectations of our consumers and customers. To this end, we seek suppliers who support our Basic Beliefs. We expect every supplier to conduct its business with the same high standards of honesty, fairness, and ethics that we apply to our own business.
In particular, we require our direct suppliers to contractually agree not to employ children, prison labor, indentured labor, or bonded labor or to participate in human trafficking. In addition, using internal resources, we perform scheduled Quality Assurance audits on select suppliers, during which our auditing personnel look for any evidence of human trafficking and slavery.
We will continue to evaluate the risk of human trafficking and slavery in our supply chain as our Company grows, and we will institute training programs for supply chain personnel as necessary to manage any identified risks that would threaten our continued dedication to our Basic Beliefs.
